President Biden is likely to veto the measure.
The Senate voted this week to formally rescind President Joe Biden’s pause on tariffs against the import of Chinese solar panel technologies. The president invoked the Defense Production Act in June 2022 to allow potentially Chinese-made solar panel parts into the United States. This allowed American solar panel manufacturing to proceed with parts made through dubious sources.
A Commerce Department investigation confirmed, in December of last year, that the solar panel parts were made in China’s Xinjiang region, an area widely suspected of using forced labor.
The House had already passed the motion, called the Congressional Review Act, to rescind President Biden’s action, and bipartisan support in the Senate passed the legislation. President Biden will likely veto this Congressional motion.
